1978 Pontiac Trans AM Butler Built 462 Turbo 475 Trans PS Four Wheel Disc Brake
Here we have a 1978 Pontiac Trans AM for sale. This T/A has undergone a meticulously restoration resulting in one of the baddest street Trans AMs on the market. It's finished in the iconic Starlight Black paint, but the real beauty comes from under the hood via the Butler Performance 455 ready to terrorize the roadways. The body on it is laser straight down the sides and all of the lines flow seamlessly from front to back. Countless hours were spent prepping and setting this body up to showcase the Starlight Black paint. It's done in the base coat clear coat combo that has been wet sanded, buffed, and polished out to a mirror finish that's slick as a ribbon. It's complimented by the iconic Phoenix on the hood along with the Gold TRANS AM badging. All the glass is beautiful and has been tinted to complete the look. We can see both the front and rear bumpers are excellent along with all of the tail lights and headlights. To finish off the stance it's sitting on a set of Body Coddington Blaster wheels with 18x8.5 up front and 18x9 in the rear.
Next, we will look at the interior of this Trans AM. On the inside, it's done in classic black as well. It has the Y82 seats that have been recovered in the Mitsubishis GSX leather with the fronts being equipped with the RCI five-point harnesses. The door panels are in great condition and the glass rolls up and down with ease and has a great fit. We can also see that the carpet and headliner have a great fit. Looking at the dash we can see that it features the aluminum gauge panel and has a set of Auto Meter gauges, a mini pro shift light, turn signal indicators, and billet headlight switch.
Finally, we will get to the driveline of this Pontiac. Under the hood is where this masterpiece thrives. We can see it has a stunning eye for detail with the smoothed inner fenders and the custom dual snorkel shaker assembly. The 455 is bored .30 over to a 462 and has a steel crank, billet four-bolt main caps, forged super-duty rods. Compression is around 11.73.1 with TRW Forged pistons and a proprietary Butler hydraulic camshaft. The heads were custom ported by Butler Machine Shop and are No 12 cast and have crane 1.65:1 Aluminum Roller Rockers. It's fueled by the Edelbrock Torker II intake, and a Holley Race Shop prepared 875 double pumper Carb. For exhaust, it has Hooker Super Comp headers with 2 in primaries and 3” collectors that go through the 3” pipes, Flowmaster mufflers and custom-built tips. The 462 runs through the Turbo 475 transmission with custom billet gears and Kevlar clutches. It has the full manual reverse valve body and trans brake with a TCI 10” torque converter with a 2,500 Stall. A custom ricing driver shaft and Spicer U-joints send power out to the Moser Ford 9” Rear End with 3.50 Gears. On the highway, this '78 T/A handles great as it's upgraded with Herb Adams 2” Drop springs, KYB shocks, Energy suspension poly urethane bushings front and rear, competition engineering traction bars, Art Morrison sub-frame connectors that were welded in. Along with having Power Steering it's equipped with four-wheel power disc brakes with 11” front and rear rotors and to support the vacuum it has a tucked-away pump between the core support and headlights.
